A North Yorkshire Police officer will face claims they communicated unprofessionally with a child at a gross misconduct hearing this month.
The person, who has not been named, is alleged to have “engaged in excessive and unprofessional communications with a young person through messaging and social media platforms” while a serving police officer.
It is also alleged that they “knew or believed this young person was of school age”.
North Yorkshire Police claims the actions breached the force's standards of professional behaviour in relation to discreditable conduct.
The hearing will be held at the force's Alverton Court headquarters in Northallerton on October 27 to 29.
Only a brief summary of the charges has been published ahead of the hearing to protect the anonymity of those involved.
The case, which will be chaired by assistant chief officer Sarah Jackson, is subject to reporting restrictions.
