A North Yorkshire Police officer could be dismissed if they are found guilty of racism at a gross misconduct hearing.

The officer is alleged to have compared a colleague’s skin colour to chocolate bars and made insulting comments about Ramadan.

The force issued details of the allegations today (April 23), ahead of the hearing on May 5.

Unlike other recent notices of misconduct hearings published by North Yorkshire Police, the officer has not been named.

The hearing notice accuses the officer, referred to as PC X, of stating words to the effect of ‘I can call you Bounty or coconut or Milky Way’ on October 19, 2023.

They are also alleged to have told a colleague ‘He is a Galaxy’ the following day.

Additionally, the officer is said to have made repeated racist comments to a colleague between April 2022 and October 2023 while on duty, including comparing them to chocolate bars and making insulting comments about Ramadan.

They are alleged to have breached police standards relating to authority, respect and courtesy, equality and diversity and discreditable conduct.

The government introduced new rules last year to sack officers guilty of gross misconduct.

The hearing, which members of the press and public can apply to attend, will take place at North Yorkshire Police’s Alverton Court headquarters on May 5.

It will be chaired assistant chief officer Lisa Stitt, who may impose reporting restrictions. Some parts of the hearing may be heard in private session.
