Northern warns of busy services as Leeds Festival starts
Northern has warned passengers to expect busy trains and allow extra time for journeys as thousands of musics fans attend Leeds Festival.
The festival, which is held at Bramham Park, is set to take place from today (August 27) until Monday (August 31).
Northern has said it is expecting an influx of passengers into Leeds City Station for the event, including on the Harrogate line.
Shuttle buses run to the festival site from Sovereign Square in Leeds, just a short walk from the station.
The company said the vast majority of train services will be running as planned this weekend, but they will be busier than usual and passengers should allow extra time for their journeys.
Alex Hornby, commercial and customer director at Northern, said:
We’re prepared for a busy bank holiday weekend and will be working hard to keep services running smoothly so we can get thousands of customers where they need to go.
We are also deploying extra staff to provide support and assistance to anyone who needs it.
Staff at Leeds station are now wearing yellow vests to make them easier to spot for anyone who needs support, directions or advice.
Northern said more than 113,200 passengers used the station over the bank holiday weekend in August last year, but it is expecting that to be surpassed this year.
