Before dawn had even broken on New Year's Day, a Harrogate fitness coach's mission to run 100km was underway.
Carl Robinson, a personal trainer and fitness coach at F45 in Harrogate, took on the mammoth challenge on January 1 in aid of Prostate Cancer UK.
He told the Stray Ferret he ran to Ripley Castle and back, and tackled "as many laps of the Stray as possible" to hit his target.
The 27-year-old set off at 5am and passed the 50km mark by 10am. With the support of some local F45 members, Carl completed the challenge - ticking off 100.01km – in 12 hours and 57 minutes.
Carl wanted to raise funds to tackle prostate cancer and raise awareness of the disease. It the most common form of cancer among men, and a number of his family members have been affected by it.
Carl, who was once a young professional at Newcastle United FC, said:
Men should check themselves daily for any abnormalities as, if caught early, it can be quickly treated and resolved.
One in eight men will get prostate cancer, and the risk is doubled for black men.
Carl has so far raised just short of £1,000 for Prostate Cancer UK and donations can still be made by clicking here.
He told the Stray Ferret:
If you're ever thinking about doing something hard, do it. The sense of fulfilment and growth you get from that experience is second to none.
