The bike seized by police.

Police seized an off-road bike in the Gallows Hill area of Ripon today (September 1) as part of a crackdown on illegal riders.

North Yorkshire Police described the vehicle as ‘pit bike-style’ in a statement.

Pit bikes are cheap, lightweight motorcycles capable of speeds over 50mph.

The police statement said:

Earlier today, officers from Ripon response and the neighbourhood policing team attended reports of a pit bike-style off-road bike being ridden around the Gallows Hill area of Ripon.

Officers attended the location, quickly located the bike and rider, and have taken action in relation to the offences identified. The bike has now been seized and removed from the streets.

The illegal use of these vehicles can cause significant nuisance to local residents and pose a risk to both riders and other members of the public.

It added officers would “continue to act on information provided by the community and take positive action where offences are identified”.

The Stray Ferret reported last week that police had seized a "highly illegal and gangerous" electric bike doing 40mph from a child in the Whitcliffe Lane area of Ripon.
