A planning application for a dog day care facility in central Harrogate has been rejected by North Yorkshire Council.
The Harrogate Dog Day Care, which occupies part of Strayside House on West Park, applied for retrospective approval for the change of use from an office to a dog day care facility.
Owner Sarah Smith started operating at the site in April 2024, but only applied for planning consent in October 2024.
That prompted a number of objections, not least from residents of the neighbouring Prince of Wales Mansions, who said they were “extremely concerned about the volume of noise from barking dogs”.

That application was withdrawn but re-submitted in slightly modified form this March.
Rejecting the application, the council wrote:
The disturbance arising from the development would be harmful to neighbouring land uses and would detract from the environmental and economic wellbeing of the area.
The proposal would have also have a harmful effect on the living conditions of the occupiers of neighbouring properties.
