Work to redevelop the former Kimberley Hotel in Harrogate is due to begin this summer.

The 70-bedroom hotel on King’s Road closed in December 2020 and has been derelict since.

But property developer Torsion Group sent the Stray Ferret an update yesterday saying it and property management firm Khalbros had agreed a redevelopment scheme.

It said:

Torsion Developments and Torsion Construction, both part of the Torsion Group, are working closely with our valued partners at Khalbros to bring forward the future refurbishment of this prominent site, with a shared vision to positively contribute to the local area and community.

As part of the upcoming enabling works, the site hoarding will be installed in the coming weeks. This will be followed by early site activity, including inspections, internal surveys, and general clean-up works to prepare the site for redevelopment.

The main construction programme is currently scheduled to commence in August 2025.

However, the update did not say what the site will be used for. The Stray Ferret asked for further details.

A Torsion Group spokesperson said:

At this stage, we’re still working through design and planning considerations, so it would be premature to confirm the final use. However, the ambition is to deliver a high-quality scheme that responds to local needs and positively contributes to the character of the area.

The Kimberley Hotel, close to Harrogate Convention Centre, was a prominent part of the town’s hospitality scene for many years until it closed.

The empty building suffered an arson attack in 2023 and police subsequently implemented a plan to reduce crime and anti-social behaviour on site. The plan closed the following year after officers deemed it to be a success.
