One sheep was killed and another seriously injured in a presumed dog attack on a small flock last weekend in Lower Dunsforth, south-east of Boroughbridge.
North Yorkshire Police (NYP) are appealing for witnesses and information about the sheep-worrying incident, which occurred overnight between Sunday and Monday, September 15 to 16.
In the appeal, NYP said:
It is a criminal offence to allow a dog to worry sheep. A dog chasing sheep can cause serious harm, even if the dog doesn’t catch or attack them.
If you live in or near a farming area, you must make sure your dog cannot escape from your property, as it may find its way onto land containing sheep.
It is vital you keep your dog on the lead around sheep, even if you can usually trust it to come to call.
Anyone with information about the incident should contact PC Fiona Wilding at North Yorkshire Police, via email fiona.wilding@northyorkshire.police.uk quoting reference 12240171133.
