North Yorkshire Police has launched an investigation after a teenager was assaulted by a group of girls in Harrogate.
In a statement today, police said the incident happened on the Stray at about 2.30pm on Saturday, May 18.
The force said a 13-year-old girl was “assaulted by a group of girls”, adding:
“Two other 13-year-old girls have come forward to the police and been interviewed as voluntary attendees. They have been released under investigation while enquiries continue.”
A video of the incident circulated on social media.
Police have urged people not to share a video of the incident that has been posted on social media. It said sharing the video could jeopardise legal proceedings by identifying those involved.
Officers are now appealing for information about the incident. It said:
Witnesses or anyone with information about the incident are asked to email adam.deacon@northyorkshire.police.uk or call 101, option 2, and ask for Adam Deacon.
“Alternatively, contact Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111 or make an online report.”
