Two men were arrested following a high-speed chase last night (October 16).

North Yorkshire Police today said in a statement it received a report from Durham officers about a car, which was linked to a burglary in that area, heading along the A1 into North Yorkshire at around 5.30pm.

The force said it tracked the car to Wetherby Services, where it failed to stop for officers and fled.

The car reached speeds of more than 140mph as it drove “erratically” along the A1, police said, adding officers used a stinger device to deflate its tyres after it left at junction 44.

The statement said:

It continued travelling before coming to a stop nearby and the occupants then ran from the vehicle. They were arrested in fields in the Aberford area following a short foot chase.

A 25-year-old man from Doncaster and a 29-year-old man,of no fixed address, were both arrested on suspicion of burglary, dangerous driving, failing to stop for the police, possessing a knife and drug driving.

Both men were taken into custody and will be transferred into the custody of Durham Constabulary.
