Poor road conditions and drainage woes are among the issues most likely to raise our readers’ blood pressure. This week, a reader says Knaresborough is not the only area with blocked drains.
Knaresborough is not the only area suffering from blocked drains.
Almost every road I walk down, be it in Harrogate or the outskirts of town, has blocked drains.
I suppose little bits are done if roads flood, but underlying everything is the fact that drains are blocked, badly.
Weeds and grass grow in and around them, they are blocked with soil and leaves.
The same can be said around the bollards and crossing areas on many of the main roads, which are used by tourists.
How unattractive is that to Harrogate, donned as a floral town? Rubbish and clutter surround these areas.
It is very sad that as we have no council, and therefore no clout, there is very little that can be done to improve the situation.
Valerie Cooke, Harrogate
This reader bemoans an increasing number of cars parked on a busy Knaresborough road.
From the Stockwell Road junction, there appears to be many vehicles parked on the pavement heading for the Boroughbridge Road roundabout.
These vehicles are parked well outside the Highway Code rules of proximity to junctions – and in any event are illegal!
Both HGV and local traffic on this road has increased significantly since 1997 when I bought my house, due to the ridiculous increase in current housing projects.
In the last 36 hours, I have seen two of these vehicles 'side-swiped', as well as three pensioners with wheelchairs, two ladies with double buggies and at least four dog walkers struggling to get past these vehicles.
I await a bang…
Maurice Johnson, Knaresborough
