A large office block in the centre of Harrogate is set to re-open after nearly six years.
Copthall Bridge House, on Station Bridge, closed in November 2018 after businesses that operated at the site were told to vacate.
The now-defunct Harrogate Borough Council approved plans to re-clad and repaint areas of the building in 2022.
The work, which is being carried out by HACS, has led to a subsequent long-term road closure around the building.
The Stray Ferret reported on the roadworks when they began last October.
At the time, North Yorkshire Council’s roadworks map said the Station Bridge closure, which includes one lane and the footpath blocked off, would end on April 2.
However, two-and-a-half months later the road remains closed. The roadworks map now suggests the work will be place in until September 30 this year – nearly six months behind schedule.
But the good news is the building is set to reopen this November.
WorkWell Offices, which will own and operate the site, revealed the news to the Stray Ferret today.
A spokesperson said:
The building is set to open its doors fully in November, and we are thrilled to introduce this offering to the Harrogate community.
Roadworks are expected to conclude by the end of September, pending a thorough risk assessment to ensure safety.
We are awaiting a response from North Yorkshire Council about the extended roadworks.
