Remembrance Day: Events across the Harrogate district

Ahead of Remembrance Day the Stray Ferret brings you a list of events happening across the Harrogate district.

November 7

Festival of Remembrance

The service will begin at 7:30pm at St Peter's Church, Harrogate. Tickets are £10, with concessions for under-16s at £5.

Concert of Remembrance

The concert will begin at 7:15pm at Ripon Cathedral. It is organised by the Ripon Community Poppy Project and tickets cost £16.96

November 10

Remembrance Sunday service

There will be a Sunday service of remembrance at St Paul's Church, Harrogate.

Harrogate service 

The Royal Air Force Association will hold a large parade, service and wreath-laying at Harrogate Cenotaph. The event has been arranged by the council. Assemble by 10.15am and there will be a two-minute silence at 11am.

Knaresborough remembrance parade

The parade will begin at 9:30am at St John's Church. The parade will then proceed from the church to the war memorial in the castle grounds. At 11am, there will be a two-minute silence, followed by a service of remembrance at the memorial.

Starbeck remembrance service

Starbeck community remembrance service will take place at 3pm at the Starbeck Cenotaph. There will be a parade up the High Street, followed by a service and wreath-laying at Starbeck memorial attended by primary school children, Scouts, guides, RAF Air cadets.

Civic service of remembrance Ripon

Ripon Cathedral’s Sung Eucharist will be at 9.30am. There will be an act of commemoration in the Spa Gardens at 10.50am, followed by members of 21 Engineer Regiment parading through the city for a Remembrance Day Service in the cathedral at 11.40am.

Songs and Poems of Remembrance

A moving afternoon of words and music, featuring the Poet Laureate, Simon Armitage, as well as tenor Nick Watts and pianist David Cowan. The event will be held at Holy Trinity Church, Ripon and will start at 3pm. Tickets cost £25, but entry for students and children is free.

Boroughbridge service

The service will begin at St James Church at 10am. It includes a walk from church to the war memorial in the Buttermarket (Hall Square) where the wreath-laying part of the service is carried out. There will be a reading by the mayor of Boroughbridge and it is held in partnership with the local church, the town council and the Royal British Legion. 

Minskip service

There will be a Sunday service of remembrance at St John's Church from 10am. 

Stonefall Cemetery, Harrogate

At 1pm, a parade will be held within the cemetery followed by a service and wreath-laying organised by the Harrogate Brigantes Rotary Club. Reverend David Hoskins will lead the service and it will be attended by some dignitaries as well as RAF cadets.

November 11

Pateley Bridge and Bewerley service

A service will be held at Pateley Bridge and Bewerley memorial hall. The event will be at 11am and is orgainsed by the Royal British Legion.
