Restore Britain to begin canvassing in Harrogate and Knaresborough
Restore Britain is to begin canvassing in Harrogate and Knaresborough as it prepares to field candidates in next year’s North Yorkshire Council elections.
A Harrogate and Knaresborough branch of the right-wing party was created three months ago.
The Stray Ferret asked the organisation, whose policies include mass deportations of all illegal migrants and repealing net-zero targets, if it planned to field a candidate in the forthcoming Harrogate Town Council election.
Branch organiser Zoe Pike said it did not plan to do so and was focusing its attention on May’s North Yorkshire Council elections.
Ms Pike said:
It's been encouraging to see a strong, energetic branch forming in Harrogate and Knaresborough. The party nationally has started undertaking vetting of potential council candidates and is looking forward to fighting in the local elections next year.
We will look to stand in by-elections in the near future on a case-by-case basis. We only want the best candidates and to be able to support their campaigns fully. We are taking a disciplined approach to the opportunities over the coming months.
We have been out litter picking and we plan to get involved in other community projects. Leafleting is underway and canvassing will begin soon.
North Yorkshire Council is currently controlled by a Conservatives and Independents group, which has 44 of the 90 seats.
A Liberal Democrat and Liberal group has 14 seats, Labour has 10, a Green and independents group has eight, an Independents group has seven, Reform UK has five and there are two unaffiliated Independents.
The Harrogate Town Council by-election in Coppice Valley will take place on August 6.
