Preparations are being made this morning for the start of resurfacing works in Market Place West

The next phase of the £630,000 resurfacing works in Ripon city centre began this morning, with contractors now focusing on Market Place West.

Market Place East and Duck Hill reopened at the weekend and Market Square South, which runs in front of the Ripon Town Hall, remains closed, awaiting the completion of resurfacing works.

The taxi rank has returned to its usual location to the east of Market Square and the Transdev 36 service has returned to the bus station.

While resurfacing work at Market Place South and West are underway, diversion routes are in place for motorists and cyclists and all of the city's seven public car parks remain open and accessible.

The first phase of the North Yorkshire Council-funded works began in late October and lasted for 25 days.

It halted on November 21 for a Christmas break, designed to lessen the impact on trade in the festive period.

Work resumed on January 7 and throughout all the project 'businesses open as usual' signage has been located in and around the city centre.

With the progress made, it is anticipated that the project will be completed by the end of March, in advance of the Easter holiday.
