Ripon Olympic diver Jack Laugher won a bronze medal today (August 2) in the men's synchronised 3m springboard diving

The ex-Ripon Grammar School pupil and his diving partner Anthony Harding placed third, making this his fourth Olympic medal.

It also gives Team GB a fourth medal in diving at the Paris Olympic Games.

The silver went to Mexico while China took the gold. China’s divers have won 27 of the 32 possible Olympic gold medals since Beijing 2008

It was a final dive that ensured their place on the medal table with a forward four and a half somersault in tuck position scoring 94.62.

In Rio in 2016, Laugher, 29, struck gold with his previous diving partner Chris Mears in the same event – making them Britain’s first ever Olympic diving champions – and silver in the individual 3m springboard. He won bronze in the individual event in Tokyo in 2021.

Laugher and Harding began diving in late 2021 and the pair won silver at the World Aquatics Championships in Budapest in 2022, and gold at the British Diving Championships in Birmingham in May.

In recognition of his achievements, Harrogate Borough Council renamed Ripon’s leisure centre the Jack Laugher Leisure and Wellness Centre in 2022.
