The library remained cordoned off this morning.

Ripon Library is still closed after Storm Darragh blew several tiles off the roof over the weekend.

The Arcade site was cordoned off after the storm brought gusts of up to 60mph to the Harrogate district.

Evidence of Storm Darragh’s impact remains outside the library, with debris scattered across the ground.

The cordon was still in place this morning, so the Stray Ferret asked North Yorkshire Council – which runs the library – when it will reopen to the public.

A council spokesperson said the library will remain closed today (December 9) and the authority is waiting for an assessment to be carried out.

The spokesperson did not disclose when the library will reopen, but a post on Ripon Library's Facebook page today said:

Ripon Library is temporarily closed.

We've lost a few roof tiles in the stormy weather over the weekend, which have fallen right in front of our main entrance.

We are waiting for the roof to be checked to make sure nothing else falls, and the area outside the library has been taped off. If you need to renew your books, you can do so online or by phone (01609 536623 or 01609 533878).

We'll let you know as soon as we can reopen. Your closest other libraries are Masham, Knaresborough [and] Harrogate.

We published a weather blog on Saturday (December 7) with live updates on Storm Darragh.

There were power cuts in Nidderdale and Boroughbridge and in villages near Masham and Ripon, as well as disruption to local attractions, but Harrogate Christmas Fayre and a tinsel tractor run in Ripon went ahead.
