Tesco is seeking a new main contractor to build its supermarket in Harrogate.
The company received planning permission in February 2023 to build a store, petrol station and a 209-space car park on the site of the former gas works at the junction of Skipton Road and Ripon Road in the New Park area.
Numerous conditions were attached to planning approval and site work only got underway this year.
The last update provided was in August as ground clearance work drew to a close.
The supermarket giant told the Stray Ferret at the time that it was “working closely with the council as part of the ongoing planning process and hope to start building work onsite soon.”

Today the Stray Ferret asked Tesco for another update after multiple people contacted us saying no work had appeared to take place on site for months.
A Tesco spokesman replied to say work beyond ground clearance wasn’t planned to start yet so it hadn't been abruptly halted but "issues with the contractor have meant we need to re-tender".
The supermarket did not confirm a likely start date for construction but added:
We remain committed to building our new Harrogate superstore and are currently tendering for a new main contractor. We still aim to have the store open in 2025, and we’ll keep the local community updated as we progress.
