The door to our new offices (right) is between Piglet in Bed and Hotel Chocolat on James Street.

After a year in our temporary offices near the cenotaph in central Harrogate, the Stray Ferret is moving to a new home this week.

From Friday, we'll be working just around the corner, in offices above Piglet in Bed on James Street.

The Stray Ferret moved to its current base on Cambridge Crescent in March 2024, before adopting a subscription model last July.

Tamsin O’Brien, owner of the Stray Ferret, said:

The current offices were gifted to us for a short period of time as we transitioned to subscription. Being in the centre of Harrogate has meant the Stray Ferret has been very accessible to our subscribers, and also for people who have come in to tell us about issues they want us to cover.

The new offices on James Street will be our permanent home. We are still in the centre of Harrogate and will continue to be accessible to the public.

We are extremely grateful for the support we have received. The new home is an exciting moment for the Stray Ferret team – please come and visit us.

The spacious Cambridge Crescent premises were occupied for many years by high-end retailer Jaeger, but that shop closed in 2021 when the company was bought by Marks & Spencer.

Womenswear company Jules B moved in in September 2022, but out again in January 2024.

Our year in the building is believed to be the only time it has been used exclusively as offices, but after we move out, the unit will return to retail use. As soon as we know who the new tenant is, we'll let you know.

The Stray Ferret was founded in March 2020 and covers news and events across the Harrogate district, including Knaresborough, Ripon, Boroughbridge, Masham and Nidderdale.
