Town council to rent additional office space in Harrogate
Harrogate Town Council is set to rent additional office space at Harrogate’s Community House.
The town council is currently based at Community House on East Parade.
However, in a report due before a full council meeting tonight (September 2), Iona Taylor, town clerk, said the authority required another room in the building to “provide suitable capacity for the council's expanding workload”.
The extra space will cost £170.16 per month — equivalent to £2,041.92 for the year — for 12 months.
Community House, which is owned by the community group HADCA, is home to dozens of charities and community organisations, including domestic abuse charity IDAS, Open Country and Harrogate Town AFC Community Foundation.
In a report, Ms Taylor said:
Alternative office accommodation options have been reviewed. The Community House proposal is considered the most proportionate, practical and cost-effective means of meeting the council's immediate accommodation needs.
The 12-month lease is expected to start in October 2026, according to the report.
The authority currently has an office rent budget of £25,000 for 2026/27.
The town council also reviewed office accommodation at 6 Victoria Avenue, 8/10 Victoria Avenue and at Osborne House on Victoria Avenue.
However, the premises were deemed too large.
Ms Taylor added:
While these premises may have merit for future accommodation considerations, they are substantially larger than the council's current requirement for a single additional office and would necessitate broader accommodation decisions, relocation planning and associated costs.
Councillors on Harrogate Town Council will discuss the proposal at tonight's full council meeting at Harrogate’s Civic Centre (September 2).
