A woman has been sentenced after assaulting a police officer in Markington.
Claire Dean, 48, of Beechwood Close in Markington, appeared before Harrogate Magistrates Court on Thursday (June 4) where she was charged with assaulting an emergency worker on December 14, 2025.
She admitted the charge in court.
Atifa Zamir, prosecuting, said a named police officer attended Dean’s address on a separate matter on the day of the offence.
She attempted to arrest Dean for an unrelated offence, but she resisted.
The court heard that the 48-year-old was then taken to custody where she “shoved her face”, but no injuries were caused.
A victim impact statement from the officer, which was read aloud in court, said:
I do not go to work and expect to be assaulted. It is never appropriate for someone to assault another.
Brian Nuttney, defending, told the court that Dean had pleaded guilty at the earliest opportunity and was “mortified” when she saw CCTV footage of the incident.
He said that the officer “turned up” in her room on the day of the offence and there was some “antagonism" between the two. He added:
It is fair to say that they rubbed each other up the wrong way.
Mr Nuttney added that Dean was “remorseful” for what had happened.
Magistrates fined the 48-year-old £120 and ordered her to pay £200 in compensation to the officer.
She was also ordered to pay a victims’ surcharge of £48 and £85 in court costs.
