Walk-in booster vaccinations will be available at Harrogate’s Great Yorkshire Showground until at least Christmas Eve, health bosses have confirmed.
Prime Minister Boris Johnson last night announced that every adult in Britain will be offered a covid booster jab by the end of December, as he warned there was a “tidal wave of Omicron coming”.
North Yorkshire Clinical Commissioning Group has since confirmed that people over-18 will be able to get a jab at the showground without an appointment until December 24.
Staff at Yorkshire Health Network, a federation of the 17 GP practices in the Harrogate district, also said today the showground site was offering walk-in clinics for 12 to 18-year-olds from 2pm to 4pm on Wednesday and 2pm to 4pm on Monday next week.
On Christmas Eve, the vaccination site will be open from 9am until 11.30am.
Booked appointments
All adults will also be able to book appointments on the NHS national booking service from Wednesday.
Those who choose to book will be given appointments at either the Yorkshire Event Centre, Knaresborough’s Chain Lane pharmacy, Ripon racecourse or other pharmacy sites in the district.
So far, 74,680 booster vaccines have been given in the Harrogate district, according to government figures.

Great Yorkshire Showground vaccine site starts taking booster bookingsHarrogate’s Great Yorkshire Showground vaccination site has started to offer appointments for booster vaccinations.
People who are eligible for a booster vaccination in the Harrogate district can now log onto the NHS booking service site for appointments in December.
Yorkshire Health Network, an organisation which represents GP practices in the district, confirmed on its social media channels today that clinics will be held from Monday next week.
Although Harrogate is the largest place in the Harrogate district, it has not had a vaccine site since the summer, forcing residents to travel to Knaresborough, Ripon and Pateley Bridge, or further afield to Leeds or York.
The showground site is due to reopen for just two weeks as part of the ongoing rollout of booster vaccinations. However, it is unclear if it will continue beyond that period.
The site closed in August after being used to administer covid jabs for most of the year.
A North Yorkshire Clinical Commissioning Group spokesperson said previously:
“Plans are in place to run pop-up covid vaccination clinics at the Yorkshire Showground at the beginning of December for two weeks, as this is when we are anticipating a peak in the number of patients eligible to receive their booster jabs.”

However, the NHS is currently still only offering appointments to over-40s. The NHS has advised people to wait to be contacted for their booster appointment.
The move comes as 17.8 million booster vaccines have been given nationally, according to government data.
No figures are currently available for the number given in the Harrogate district.

Those eligible for a booster can still book appointments at vaccination sites in the district.

Urgent appeal for covid booster jab volunteer driversA Harrogate charity has issued an urgent appeal for volunteer drivers to transport people to covid booster vaccine appointments.
Harrogate Easier Living Project, which offers non-emergency transport for patients to hospital and GP surgeries, is expecting a surge in demand following the start of the booster vaccine programme.
Boosters are currently being administered at Knaresborough’s Chain Lane Community Centre and there are also plans to offer them at Ripon Races.
This year, the charity helped provide 300 journeys to and from the vaccination centres at the Great Yorkshire Showground in Harrogate and Ripon Races.
Frances Elliot, chief executive of HELP’s parent charity, Harrogate and District Community Action, said:
“Our small team of volunteer drivers does an amazing job but they can only take on so many journeys between them. We now urgently need more volunteer drivers to help with a wide range of journeys.
“We recognise people lead busy lives. Whether you can spare one hour a month or half a day a week, we really need you.”
