The world’s number 1 home energy & electric vehicle show, Fully Charged LIVE, will be making its debut up North at the Yorkshire Event Centre in Harrogate over the weekend of the 19th – 21st May 2023 following the success of events around the world in Farnborough, Sydney, Vancouver, San Diego and Netherlands. 

Fully Charged LIVE North in Harrogate is expected to bring in 10,000 visitors over the weekend of the 19th – 21st May. After the success we have received at the South event over the past few years, coming to the North was a natural progression.

We want to spread our message: #STOPBURNINGSTUFF and make more people aware of the greener choices that we can all be making and help others gain a better understanding of how they can help to make an impact against climate change and save our planet. 

This Festival of Electrification will showcase a host of quality exhibits and attractions including:  

• Over 30 speaker sessions held over two theatres, featuring presenters from the Fully Charged Show, expert panellists and special guests. These live sessions will look at topics such as “Are Electric Car Conversions the next big business?”, “Energy & EV mythbusting!”, and the favourite Electric Fireside Chat hosted by Robert Llewellyn, where he has a chat with some big names in the clean energy industry, and a few familiar faces. 
• 120+ exhibitors and offering clean energy solutions and electric vehicles of all shapes and sizes 
• Test Drives – Companies such as Polestar, Hyundai, BYD, Genesis and others will be providing their top models for you to get behind the wheel of, as well as electric motorcycles supplied by A E Bikes, ABB and Fonz that will be available for you to try too.  
• The Electric Launchpad will showcase cars that have yet to be seen in the public, giving you the first look at the future of electric vehicles. 
• A M1CRO-MACH1NES area, were visitors will be able to test out the range of electric two-wheelers we have to offer, including e-bikes, e-scooters and e-skateboards. This variety of  two-wheelers offer an exciting and innovative form of travel for city living and commuting, or just for your own leisure. 
• The Home Energy Advice Team, powered by OVO, will be able to answer your burning questions about the current energy crisis, sustainable ways to provide that energy to your home and ways to save on your energy bills.  
• Kids Zone – With free entry for little ones, parents will be able to bring the little ones in the family for a fun packed day of activities for them. From a sustainable lego city to learning circus skills, we think you’ll agree that it will be an educating, entertaining and a great value family day out.

Harrogate Chocolate Factory will be hosting an informal business networking event on Monday.

Coffee and cake will be included, with a tour of the chocolate factory.

The event will run from 9:30am on Monday 25 April and will all be completely free of charge for anyone wanting to attend.

Attendees are free to bring a guest, and are asked to reserve a place by emailing Angela at the factory at angela@hs4lc.org.uk.

Harrogate Chocolate Factory is a social enterprise café launched in 2019. The company sells dark chocolate made from Peruvian cacao beans, and aims to support young adults with learning disabilities and autism to gain vital skills to enter employment.

Elexshow comes to Harrogate

The UK’s largest trade event for electricians, the Elexshow, is coming to Harrogate.

Businesses such as Alltrade, Aico, CK Tools, and Metrel will be at the show, which will be hosted in Great Yorkshire Showground this year.

Exhibitions of equipment, tools, new apps and systems will be available to view for tradespeople in and around the region.

The event spans over the course of two days, from Thursday 28-29 April.

Tickets are available to book online for free, and can be found on the Elexshow website.

Inhealthcare UK raises money for Frank’s Fund 

Inhealthcare UK has raised more than £200 to support a local charity.

The raffle gifted the winner a Bettys Yorkshire Delights hamper.

The company, which provides digital health and remote patient monitoring, donated the money to Frank’s Fund.

Frank’s Fund was set up by the family of a young boy who died from a rare form of bone cancer

Frank’s Fund is a local Harrogate based charity. It was set up in memory of Frank Ashton, a Harrogate schoolboy who died from Ewing’s Sarcoma. The charity aims to raise awareness and funds for this rare form of bone cancer. You can read more about it on a Stray Ferret Charity Corner here.

To date, the charity has raised £299,170.77.

Shoppers will be able to take advantage of free buses every Sunday in January and February to give businesses in Harrogate town centre a much-needed boost.

Free buses will be available on the electric services only – on the 2, 3 and 6.

The Harrogate Business Improvement District (BID) has once again sponsored scheme, called the Sunday Freeway, after partnering with the Harrogate Bus Company in 2020 and 2019.

Tomorrow also marks the final day of Harrogate BID’s free parking initiative on Mondays to Thursdays after 3pm at the Victoria multi-storey car park.

With coronavirus cases on the rise and further restrictions on the agenda, this free service is expected to entice more visitors into Harrogate.

Back in 2019 the free Sunday buses generated a 90% rise in the number of customers travelling compared with the same period the year before.

Sara Ferguson, Harrogate BID chair and business owner, said:

“This is the third time we have partnered with our local bus operator, and on both previous occasions it helped to increase the number of passengers.

“This year, we have chosen January and February, which can be quiet months for the retail and hospitality sectors.

“Harrogate town centre is well worth a visit at any time of the year, and we hope the added incentive of free bus travel will make it even more appealing.”

The Harrogate Bus Company CEO Alex Hornby said:

“We’re delighted that Harrogate BID are able to again work in partnership with us to support our ‘Sunday Freeway’ on our Harrogate electrics buses.

“Free Sunday travel on our pioneering Harrogate electrics buses will make it easier to support our local economy and help keep our town’s traders in business into 2022.

“It’s been an incredibly challenging time for Harrogate’s businesses, with previous lockdowns and now the prospect of further restrictions.

“More than ever, it’s now up to us all to support them in the vital first few months of the New Year by taking advantage of free travel on Harrogate electrics buses.”

An entire fleet of buses in Harrogate could be replaced with electric models as part of an ambitious £20 million bid.

North Yorkshire County Council (NYCC) is working with the Harrogate Bus Company, part of Transdev, on a bid for more than £8 million in government money.

Transdev has also proposed to prop up the bid with £11.5 million of its own funds.

If successful, Harrogate would welcome a total of 39 zero-emission buses over the next three years.

The buses come with next stop announcements, USB power and free wifi.

There would be an even split of single-decker and double-decker electric buses which would come with supporting charging infrastructure.

Now, the Department for Transport (DfT) has asked the council to submit a business case for the project.

The bid must be submitted by the end of January 2022 with a decision from the DfT expected by March 2022.

Cllr Don Mackenzie, the executive member for access at NYCC, said:

“We’re near the start of a competitive process and success is not guaranteed, but this action illustrates the scale of our ambition and commitment.

“This project aligns with the decarbonisation ambitions we share with partners across the region to protect the environment and counter climate change.

“It would accelerate improvements in air quality, as zero emission vehicles produce no tail pipe emissions, bringing health benefits to residents and visitors.”

Alex Hornby, CEO at Transdev, said:

“We have already created a low-emission bus fleet in Harrogate thanks to the huge investment we have made in the past few years.

“We hope this bid will lead to the next exciting step of our vision to create a completely zero-emission bus network, powered by a fully-electric fleet.

“With our partners at North Yorkshire County Council, we aim to create further improvements in infrastructure.

“This comes at a time when we believe our town is ready to embrace more sustainable forms of travel.”
