A Harrogate homeless man has been given an 18-week suspended prison sentence for threatening to kill a policeman.
Ryan Hopper, 20, admitted the offence when he appeared before magistrates in Harrogate on Thursday.
Hopper, of Harrogate Homeless Project on Bower Street, threatened the officer on Rudbeck Drive in Harrogate on May 14 this year.
He also pleaded guilty to assaulting the same officer on the same day on Dalby Avenue.
Court documents said he was given a custodial sentence because of his previous record and the fact the offences were committed while he was subject to a community order. He was also fined £240.
However, the prison sentence was suspended for 18 months because there was a “realistic prospect of rehabilitation”, the documents added.
Hopper received a community order on January 5 this year for affray, possessing class B drugs, possessing an offensive weapon and threatening violence on Bower Street.

Suspended sentence for man with knife in Harrogate town centre
A man has received a four-month suspended prison sentence for possessing a knife in Harrogate town centre.
Michael Smith, 32, admitted the offence when he appeared at Harrogate Magistrates Court on Thursday (December 15).
Smith, of Harewood Road, Jennyfields, was charged with having the knife on Cambridge Road on November 8.
His sentence was suspended for 24 months.
Magistrates ordered him to carry out 180 hours of supervised unpaid work within the next 12 months.
Smith was also ordered to pay £114 to victim services and £85 to the Crown Prosecution Service.

Harrogate boy, 15, sentenced for stealing car and carrying knife
A 15-year-old Harrogate boy has been referred to a youth offender panel for 12 months for stealing a car and carrying a knife and bolt cutters.
The boy, who cannot be named for legal reasons, was also ordered to pay a £22 surcharge to fund victim services.
Magistrates in Harrogate imposed the sentence on Friday after the teenager pleaded guilty to three offences, which all took place on January 20 this year.
The first was stealing a car of unknown value on John Street, Harrogate.
The second was having a kitchen knife on West Park Stray on January 20 and the third was for going equipped to steal with bolt cutters at the same location.
The court took into account the boy’s guilty pleas when imposing the sentence.

Girls aged 13 and 14 admit setting fire to bins in Harrogate
Two girls aged 13 and 14 have admitted setting commercial bins on fire in Harrogate town centre.
The girls, who are both from Harrogate, cannot be named for legal reasons.
They pleaded guilty to arson on a Biffa bin worth £600 belonging to Primark on Oxford Place on May 23.
They also admitted the same charge relating to a bin worth £600 belonging to Harrogate Borough Council on May 26.
The 13-year-old is the same girl who admitted in June being drunk in Ripon and attacking three police officers.
They appeared before North Yorkshire Youth Court in Harrogate on Friday, where they were referred to a youth offender panel for 12 months.
They were also ordered to pay £50 compensation.
The older girl also pleaded guilty to separate charges of causing actual bodily harm on June 19 and assaulting a police officer three days later.
She was ordered to pay £200 compensation plus £85 court costs and a £26 surcharge to fund victim services.

Men charged with theft from Harrogate and Ripon tips
Three men have appeared in court charged with stealing items from household waste recycling centres in Harrogate and Ripon.
North Yorkshire County Council operates the sites at Penny Pot Lane in Harrogate and Dallamires Lane in Ripon.
Lewis Boocock, 23, of Pioneer House, Dewsbury, is alleged to have stolen six laptops from Dallamires Lane and two TVs and two laptops from Penny Pot Lane on March 20 last year.
Mitchell Boocock, 22, of Common Road, Batley is charged with the theft of numerous electrical items from Penny Pot Lane on March 29 last year.
Luke Boocock, 21, of Leeds Road, Ossett, is alleged to have stolen electrical items from the sites at Penny Pot Lane and Dallamires Lane on March 21 and March 29 last year.
The cases, which were heard at Harrogate Magistrates Court yesterday, have been remitted to Lancashire Magistrates Court on April 22.
The three men were granted unconditional bail.
Harrogate man accused of causing cyclist’s death by dangerous drivingA Harrogate man has appeared in court charged with causing the death of a cyclist by dangerous driving.
James Bryan, 36, of St Mary’s Avenue, was driving a Porsche Carrera when the incident occurred on the A168 northbound between Allerton Park and Boroughbridge on May 10, 2020. The A168 runs alongside the A1.
He is accused of causing the death of Andrew Jackson, 36, a husband and father-of-two from Hunsingore, near Wetherby.
Mr Jackson died at the scene.
Mr Bryan appeared at Harrogate Magistrates Court yesterday, where the case was sent for trial at York Crown Court.
It is due to be heard on April 4.
