Good oral health and feeling confident in your smile are closely related – yet there are still many of us living with dental issues that don’t give us much reason to grin.

One dental practice determined to turn the frown upside down is The Raglan Suite. Based in the centre of Harrogate, The Raglan Suite is a well-established practice and part of the Bupa Healthcare family, with over two decades of experience providing dental services across North Yorkshire and beyond.

The practice has worked tirelessly to build a referral network over many years. Currently, over 400 dentist practitioners refer their patients from across Yorkshire and the North East for advanced treatments such as dental implants, orthodontics, and other complex dental work.

While the majority of its patients are referred by other practices, the expert clinicians at The Raglan Suite also take on self-referrals, often made by those seeking out a particular treatment delivered by trusted professionals.

You don’t need to be a Bupa member or have Bupa insurance to be seen either – The Raglan Suite is open to everybody.

‘Patient-centred care’

The highly experienced team at The Raglan Suite understand that visiting the dentist – especially for specialised treatment beyond a regular check-up – can be a daunting prospect.

Yorkshire antique-valuer opens Harrogate office

A Yorkshire-based auctioneer and antique-valuer has opened a Harrogate office.

David Duggleby, which opened in 1996, has opened a salesroom on Raglan Street, making it the third of its kind alongside York and Scarborough.

The Harrogate site will host a number of dedicated valuation days, specialising in antiques, collectors’ items, jewellery and fine art.

Managing director, Will Duggleby, said:

“We’ve been looking at having a presence in Harrogate for a while, so we’re delighted that everything has come together – the right office, in the right place, at the right time for the business – and with the right person available to run it.”

The firm has also appointed a jewellery specialist for the Harrogate office, but Mr Duggleby added “anyone can bring anything it to get it assessed and valued”.

He said:

“Sometimes people bring in family heirlooms that they simply want to learn more about.

“Others may want to know if an antique or collectable is worth selling.

“And there are, of course, occasions when people have absolutely no idea that they have something rather special – in which case the valuation can come as something of a shock.”

Mr Duggleby also said items consigned for sale will be directed into one of the firm’s “specialist auctions”.

Valuations and advice are free of charge.

David Duggleby Harrogate will be open each weekday except for Wednesday from 9am – 4pm.

Harrogate town centre business vandalised

A health and beauty business in Harrogate is counting the cost of the damage after its premises were attacked by a vandal.

The Wellness Clinic on Raglan Street sustained hundreds of pounds’ worth of damage, with windows smashed, a sign broken, furniture damaged and five large outdoor terracotta plant-pots ruined, destroying the plants.

The Wellness Clinic provides a range of services at its Raglan Street premises.

In a post on social media, the clinic said:

Luckily no one was physically hurt, but we are devastated.

“We are, of course, insured but when the excess is £750-plus, it doesn’t make sense to make a claim.

“We have worked incredibly hard to create a beautiful and safe clinic that our professionals work from. To see that your business has been targeted by a reckless individual for a couple minutes of adrenaline is incredibly upsetting.”

Police are using CCTV footage to try to identify the suspect, who caused hundreds of pounds' worth of damage.

The Wellness Clinic provides a range of services, including physiotherapy, beauty therapies, electrolysis, mindfulness and even private midwifery.

The business is still open and operating, and is now working with North Yorkshire Police to create still images from CCTV footage of the suspect, who struck on New Year’s Day.

According to the clinic, the suspect was described as female, wearing grey jogging bottoms, a dark-coloured top and no shoes.

Harrogate’s Old Courthouse could become townhouses

Plans have been lodged to convert the Old Courthouse in Harrogate town centre into three townhouses.

The building on Raglan Street was previously occupied by Stowe Family Law, which vacated the property for another site in town in February this year.

Proposals have now been tabled by Park Design Architects to convert the site from offices into two three-bedroom and one two-bedroom townhouse.

Six car parking spaces are also included in the plans.

The developer said in documents submitted to the council that the site was a “sustainable location” for new homes.

It said:

“Overall, the site is located within a highly sustainable area and will utilise existing car parking provision to serve the proposed use, with easy access to alternative means of transport other than the private car to support sustainable travel.”

Harrogate Borough Council will make a decision on the proposal at a later date.

The original building was built in 1857 and was initially a police house for the town.

This was later demolished and replaced with a courthouse, which was used by justices of the borough until 1991.

Stowe Family Law moved into the property as tenants in 2004.
