The fencing was put up at the beginning of October.

Metal fencing put up around the pavilion in Harrogate’s Crescent Gardens more than three months ago looks set to remain indefinitely.

The fences were erected at the beginning of October to block a group of rough sleepers who had occupied the pavilion for two-weeks in September from returning.

The Stray Ferret followed the saga closely after nearby residents, who complained of anti-social behaviour during the group’s encampment. Many sympathised with the rough sleepers but wanted to know what long-term measures would be put in place on the site.

However, the fencing remains and North Yorkshire Council still has no immediate action plan.

Kim Robertshaw, the council’s head of housing needs, today told the Stray Ferret:

“The temporary fencing will remain in place whilst partners review options to ensure appropriate use of the space.”

Ms Robertshaw also said the council was “continuing to work with rough sleepers in the town to find viable options for them to be rehoused”,  adding:

“The people who were rough sleeping in Crescent Gardens have been rehoused or offered alternative accommodation.

“Multi-agency meetings are scheduled to ensure any approach is coordinated and addresses the issues.”
