Two of the most sought after pianists in the world will play in Harrogate within the space of 48 hours next month.
Sir Stephen Hough and Jean-Efflam Bavouzet will perform at the Wesley Centre as part of the concert series organised by Andrew Hitchen.
Sir Stephen will make his 10th appearance in Harrogate — and first for two years — on the evening of Saturday, February 10.
This event, which includes compositions by by Chaminade, Liszt and Chopin is already almost sold out.
Two days later, on February 12, Mr Bavouzet will play as part of the monthly Monday lunchtime series at 1pm.
The internationally renowned French pianist will perform a programme of miniature masterpieces in advance of a concert at London’s Wigmore Hall, and a tour to Japan,
The programme includes Debussy’s famous Clair de Lune, which forms the central part of his Suite Bergamasque.
Three very different types of waltz are featured too – an elaborately decorated one by Franz Liszt, a sultry slow one by Debussy and a ‘Crazy Waltz’ by Jules Massenet. There’ll also be painting in music by Debussy, inspired by the artist and North Yorkshire aficionado J.M.W. Turner, and a vivid representation of a white butterfly by Massenet.
Tickets will be available on the door.
