Independent party supplies retailer Party Fever has confirmed it has closed in Harrogate after more than 17 years.

The Stray Ferret reported two weeks ago the shop on Station Parade had not reopened after the festive period. A sign in the window said "we are working to get going again".

Another sign by owner Sue Savill has now appeared in the window saying "with much sadness we announce Party Fever will be closing its doors".

Ms Savill added it had been a "joy" to serve Harrogate but added:

“Unfortunately, rising overheads etc dictate that we would need to increase our sale prices or our turnover significantly to continue to serve you from a high street position. So, we have to admit defeat and bow out as gracefully as possible.”

But she added there were plans for a new online party supplies venture.

"Our plan is to restructure and bring you the best bits of Party Fever via a new online platform at www.party-studio.co.uk."
