Every Monday, the Stray Ferret publishes a round-up of sports action in the Harrogate district, focusing on the first team results of local amateur and semi-professional sports clubs.

Here's what happened during the week of February 16 to 22.

1. Knaresborough match abandoned due to electrical fault

Knaresborough Town were denied three points with less than five minutes remaining on Tuesday, after floodlight failures forced the match to be abandoned. The Boro were 2-1 up against eighth-place Pickering Town, courtesy of goals from Sam Barker and Ben Gelder, before a power outage on Manse Lane caused half of the floodlights to cut out. With the club unable to restore power before the 9.50pm cut-off, the match was abandoned after 87 minutes.

2. Knaresborough keeper, 16, wins Player of the Match on debut

Knaresborough Town’s 16-year-old goalkeeping debutant was awarded player of the match on Saturday after a strong performance against promotion candidates Handsworth. Jake Turnbull helped the Boro keep a clean sheet on Saturday, as they beat the third-placed side 2-0 at home. Ben Gelder and Jack Lazenby both got on the scoresheet for Knaresborough. Knaresborough move up to 11th place after the win, with Handsworth dropping to sixth.

3. Boroughbridge AFC remain third

Boroughbridge AFC have remained in the promotion spots after a tight win against Bardsey on Saturday. Jack Herron scored the only goal as The Bridge beat the relegation candidates 1-0 at home. Having been promoted into the West Yorkshire Association Football League Division One last season, the Bridge currently sit in the three promotion spots with 32 points from 19 games. However, should Silsden Whitestar win their five games in hand over Boroughbridge, they could usurp them.

4. Harrogate Railway back to winning ways

Harrogate Railway got back to winning ways against Athersley Recreation on Saturday, after a turbulent month that saw them lose five out of six games. James Eyles scored twice, and Joe Navier added another as The Rail beat the relegation candidates away. This was a much-needed win for Railway, as a recent downturn in form has seen them drop from second to fourth. With 65 points from 30 games, The Rail can go level on points with second-placed Wakefield should they win their three games in hand.
