Last year's opening of St Roberts Grove.

The Care Quality Commission has rated Harrogate-based Disability Action Yorkshire as ‘good’ in a report published this week.

Disability Action Yorkshire provides 23 flats at its St Roberts Grove supported living development on Claro Road. Another 12 flats are due to be occupied on the site in January next year.

Government inspectors from the CQC, which regulates health and adult social care, visited from August 7 to 10 this year.

It was their first visit to St Roberts Grove since it opened in April last year.

Their report, published here, rated the charity as ‘good’ overall and ‘good’ in all five sub-categories: safe, effective, caring, responsive and well led.

The report says:

The provider and registered manager were very committed to providing responsive, personalised care and support. Staff we spoke with shared that commitment.

Staff understood their safeguarding responsibilities and were confident that any concerns they raised would be dealt with promptly and appropriately. Risks were well managed, and care plans and risk assessments were person-centered.

Everyone we spoke with was very positive about the registered manager and the way the service was organised and run.

Staff are described as “friendly, caring and kind” and people living in the flats “were involved in all decisions about their care and support”, according to the report.

It added “people were safe and protected from avoidable harm” and there was “a culture of openness, flexibility and learning”, adding: “Leaders had the skills, knowledge, experience and credibility to lead effectively.”

Disability Action Yorkshire is one of Harrogate’s largest charities.

Chief executive Jackie Snape said:

Delivering high-quality care and support to every customer is at the heart of what we do, and this report highlights that commitment. We are especially pleased that the hard work and dedication of our manager and her team have been recognised in this way.
