A new fine dining restaurant and bar in Harrogate is set to open in the coming weeks.
Johnny’s Bar and Parlour, which has taken over the neighbouring Montpellier Parade units formerly occupied by Owl and Suzi Hamilton, sought approval for a premises licence in September, as reported by the Stray Ferret.
Director and head chef Jemima Harrison told the Stray Ferret at the time she wanted to “create an experience for my guests from the moment they walk through the door”.
But new details of Johnny’s Bar and Parlour have now emerged as the opening date nears.
Ms Harrison today (October 29) said she hopes the site will open on November 14.
Johnny’s Bar and Parlour will feature a “speakeasy-style bar” with a piano, as well as champagne, wine and cocktails.
Ms Harrison told the Stray Ferret:
It will be somewhere people can get dressed up to visit.
We will also be serving small plates from around the world in the bar, including Dutch Bitterballen, Spanish tapas and British tapas. We will also be serving caviar in the bar area and there will be a lot of British produce.
On Friday and Saturday evenings, the parlour area – a small restaurant with 25 covers – will open, serving a seven-course tasting menu.
Sunday lunch will also be served in the parlour.
When the Stray Ferret asked Ms Harrison why she chose to open in Harrogate, she said:
My family moved here around four years ago and we just love it. I’ve worked all over as a chef and it has always been a dream of mine to open my own place.
I just thought [Harrogate] was missing that sort of thing.
Ms Harrison will be joined by 17 members of staff, including a general manager who trained at The Ritz in London and most recently worked at The Grand, York.
Johnny’s Bar and Parlour will open from 2pm until midnight on Wednesdays, 12pm until midnight, Thursday to Saturday, and midday until 7pm on Sundays.
Food and drinks will still be served in the bar when the parlour is open, Ms Harrison said.
