A Harrogate woman has admitted to possessing class A drugs after police found them in her freezer.
Tahnie Kingscott, of Kennion Road, appeared at Harrogate Magistrates Court yesterday (October 9) charged with possession of a controlled drug of class A.
Kaye Barnard, prosecuting, told the court North Yorkshire Police received a report from Border Force after a large parcel addressed to a property in Harrogate was intercepted.
Police went to the property on April 23 and found Kingscott and another person at the house.
Kingscott was arrested, Ms Barnard said, and police discovered psilocin – commonly known as magic mushrooms – at the house.
Kingscott admitted to possessing the drugs in a police interview but said she picked them at her parents’ house.
“The defendant told police they were for personal use, but she decided against [consuming] them”, the court heard.
Kingscott has seven previous convictions but has not been before the courts since 2007.
Ismael Uddin, defending, told the court there is “more to the story”.
He said the parcel belonged to the other person present at the property when police went there and claimed Kingscott had “nothing to do with her”.
The other person faces separate drugs charges.
Police located the psilocin in the freezer at the property, but Mr Uddin told the magistrates the drugs were for Kingscott’s personal use and said she had actually “forgotten about them” after storing them in the freezer.
Kingscott was ordered to pay an £80 fine, a £32 surcharge and £85 in prosecution costs.
The magistrates also made a forfeiture and destruction order in relation to the drugs seized.
