SELF.uk opened in 2023 but has since closed its doors.

A lifestyle, wellness and clothing brand has shut the doors to its Harrogate store.

SELF.uk took over a unit on James Street in July 2023 after founder Suzie Bateman fell in love with the town a decade earlier.

Alongside other locations in Lincoln and Woodhall Spa, SELF.uk Harrogate sold a range of womenswear, homeware, gifts and perfumes.

But a ‘to let’ sign has now been erected at the local site, with a notice in the window telling customers the Harrogate shop closed on March 22 due to the lease ending.

The notice says:

While we’re sad to say goodbye to this space, we’re excited to continue serving you at our other locations and online, and we’ll keep exploring opportunities to grow our brand.

We truly appreciate your support and hope to see you again the future.

A notice in the window announced the closure.

Ms Bateman told the Stray Ferret in 2023 the company was launched in lockdown following a career in sales and marketing, when she started curating gift boxes for customers and corporate clients.

SELF.uk opened its first bricks-and-mortar store in 2021.

The news comes as yet another blow to the local retail scene, with Russell & Bromley and LK Bennett – both long-term fixtures on James Street – preparing to close permanently.

Art gallery and shop Lucy Pittaway, which opened on James Street in November 2022, also recently closed.

The move was attributed to “rising operational costs”, including “a significant rent increase” at the local site.
