An art gallery on a prominent Harrogate street is to close.
Lucy Pittaway, which opened a gallery and shop on James Street in November 2022, today (January 14) took to social media to announce its Harrogate and Bowness-on-Windermere galleries would cease trading.
In a statement, Lucy Pittaway said it has been an “incredibly tough decision, influenced by rising operational costs facing so many UK businesses, including a significant rent increase at our Harrogate location”.
She added:
Our priority right now is supporting the wonderful colleagues affected as we work through the consultation process. I am so grateful for their hard work and dedication, and for the support our customers have shown these galleries over the years. It truly means the world.

A closing date has not yet been revealed, but the gallery assured customers its Richmond, Yarm, York, Newcastle, Keswick and Brompton-on-Swale sites will remain open as usual.
Online orders will also continue.
Today’s statement also said:
In the coming weeks, both closing galleries will hold closing down sales, with 30% off all stock.
Thank you, from the bottom of my heart, for your continued support.
Several people commented on the Facebook post saying how sorry they were to hear of the closure.
The news is the second blow to Harrogate’s high street this week, as Pudding Lab also announced it had closed its Cold Bath Road venue just 15 months after opening its doors.
