Music House on Cheltenham Parade

A long-running shop in Harrogate has closed due to retirement.

Music House, which has been a permanent fixture on Cheltenham Parade since 2001, officially closed its doors at the end of December.

It came after the store manager, Karen, took a well-earned retirement following more than 20 years in post.

Music House sold a wide range of instruments and musical products but specialised in wind instruments.

Windstruments, the local shop’s sister site in Bingley, has operated since 1994 and will remain open.

A spokesperson for the company said:

We've had a wonderful 24 years meeting and supporting the music lovers of Harrogate and surrounding area at Music House. It has been a real privilege to help musicians of all levels and abilities, from those just starting out to top professionals.

Our brilliant team at our main Bingley showroom and in-house repair workshop will continue to support our Harrogate customers looking for instruments, music and advice with the same expert-led service. We have a huge showroom of instruments and accessories, and plenty of free on-site parking.

A notice was left in the shop window.

The company also holds summer school events in Harrogate for saxophone, clarinet and flute players, which will not be impacted by the closure and will go ahead in August.

The spokesperson added:

As we say goodbye to Music House, we want to thank all our Harrogate customers for their support and look forward to seeing many of you in Bingley soon.

Wishing the happiest of retirements to our brilliant store manager of more than two decades.
