A small section of Harrogate’s Leeds Road is set to remain closed for several days, Northern Gas Networks has confirmed.
The gas distributor for the north of England shut the Leeds Road exit of the St George’s roundabout suddenly last Friday (September 11) due to a gas leak.
The road is shut between the roundabout and St Mark’s Church.
Northern Gas Networks said at the time it is carrying out “essential repair work on gas pipes” but did not specify how long road would remain closed.
However, in an update today (September 15), the company told the Stray Ferret it expects the road to reopen on Thursday (September 18).
Northern Gas Networks last week said a diversion is in place and “clearly signposted”. When the Stray Ferret asked the company to clarify this today, a spokesperson said:
The site manager has assured me that diversion signage is in place for the diversion which is via John Metcalf Way and Wetherby Road.
Gas supply to homes and businesses is unaffected, Northern Gas Networks previously said.
