The Fisherman's Wife will open its doors next week.

The ex-owner of a renowned Harrogate fish and chip shop is set to revive its former home next week.

Graveleys of Harrogate, opened by Graham Reed-Stephenson, operated at the Cheltenham Parade site for many years and forged a reputation as the town’s best-known fish and chip shop.

The site was taken over by other chippy owners in the years following and was most recently occupied by Bradleys, which – along with its Starbeck site – shut suddenly in September for reasons still unknown.

But the site is out to be given a new lease of life, as Mr Reed-Stephenson prepares to open The Fisherman’s Wife there next week.

It will be the company's fourth location, with other sites in Whitby, York and Leeds.

The Harrogate site will officially open its doors on Thursday, December 4.

Mr Reed-Stephenson yesterday (November 26) told the Stray Ferret the chippy will operate Wednesday to Saturday, but said opening hours will extend once "we feel as though we are coping”.

Fish and chips will be available in both the restaurant and the takeaway.

The news comes after Drakes fish and chip shops closed in Knaresborough and Ripon this month.
