Every Monday, the Stray Ferret publishes a round-up of sports action in the Harrogate district, focusing on the first team results of local amateur and semi-professional sports clubs.

Here's what happened during the week of February 23 to March 1.

1. Harrogate Railway complete incredible comeback

Harrogate Railway completed an incredible comeback against Armthorpe Welfare on Saturday. The Rail went into the game having won just two of their last seven games and Rob Youhill’s side found themselves 3-0 down after 36 minutes. But The Rail came out after the break a different beast: Alex Burton pulled one back after 55 minutes, and two quick strikes from Alex Ingham and James Eyles on 70 and 71 minutes brought the score level. Burton then added his second in the 87th minute to win the game for the Station View side in dramatic fashion. Harrogate now have 68 points from 31 games and could go level on points with second-placed Wakefield if they win their games in hand.

2. Knaresborough Town Women into League Cup final

Knaresborough Town Women are through to a cup final for the first time in their short history after a win on Sunday. Mike Bligh’s side edged out Halifax Friendly in a cagey 1-0 win. Grace Adams’ second-half strike was enough to see The Boro progress to their first-ever final. They will face Thackley on May 3.

3. Harrogate RUFC leapfrog Ilkley after derby win

Harrogate Rugby Club jumped into the play-off spots after an 18-24 derby win against promotion rivals Ilkley on Saturday. The Aces went into the game one point behind their local rivals, but a win and a bonus point for scoring four tries means that the Rudding Lane side now sit three points ahead of Ilkley with four games to play. Harrogate scored four tries to Ikley’s two, with Amrit Sharma, Kristian Dobson, Jake Brady and Zak Sebouai all touching it down for The Aces.

4. Harrogate Hockey Club Men get first win in five

Harrogate Hockey Club’s men’s side won their first game in five to put the pressure on Whitley Bay and Tynemouth on Saturday. Winning 3-1 at home, eighth-placed Harrogate reduced the gap between themselves and seventh-placed Whitley Bay and Tynemouth to six points with three games left to play. Jenson Brook scored twice for Harrogate while Tom Gugan added a third to seal the side’s first win since late January.

5. Ripon Rockets one win away from perfect season

Ripon Rockets are one win away from completing an incredible perfect season in the NYNAL Senior Winter Netball League. The Ripon-based side beat Harrogate Phoenix 39-62 to make it 17 wins out of 17 this season. With one game left to play against Sirens, The Rockets could finish their league season having won all 18 games – an incredible achievement in any sports league. Their domination this year means they were already confirmed league champions at the beginning of February.
