Aldi in Harrogate has now reopened.

The Oak Beck Aldi store at Harrogate Retail Park reopened today (August 27) after undergoing a makeover during the past week.

The refurbishment was part of a nationwide initiative by Aldi, which spent £300 million upgrading stores across the UK.

The Stray Ferret spoke to deputy store manager Jack Hepworth, who explained some of the changes made at the store.

He told us that the main element of the refurbishment had been the installation of upgraded refrigerators, which now all keep products behind doors to better maintain temperatures.

This summer's heatwaves caused problems at supermarkets across the country, as refrigerators struggled to cope with the high temperatures.

Mr Hepworth also pointed to the overhauled store layout, which includes a larger bakery section at the back of the store, adding:

The layout is easier to navigate for ourselves, and for customers as well. The focus has also been on getting more on the shelves.

Although the shop does not appear dramatically different, the Specialbuys section (Aldi's famous "middle aisles") has been slightly reduced to make room for an englarged store cupboard section.

Mr Hepworth explained that this is to help minimise product rotation, increasing the amount on offer at any one time.

The newly refurbished store will have been open at Oak Beck for 10 years this year.
