Social media has been awash recently with comments about the future of two Harrogate district fish and chip shops.
Bradleys chippies on Starbeck High Street and Cheltenham Parade in Harrogate town centre have been closed for more than a week. No reasons for the closures appear to have been released.
The company took over the iconic Graveleys of Harrogate site in February last year. It already operated the Starbeck site, as well as locations in Northallerton and Scarborough.
But the two local sites were closed when the Stray Ferret visited them on Tuesday (September 23) and Friday (September 26) last week, with no discernible signs of life.
Bradleys was shut when the Stray Ferret visited the site on Friday (September 26) afternoon.
The Cheltenham Parade takeaway was also shut when the Stray Ferret visited on Tuesday (September 23).
The Stray Ferret has contacted Bradleys to ask what is happening on numerous occasions, including to ask why the sites have closed and if they will reopen.
When we contacted the Cheltenham Parade site on Facebook, the business replied:
Sorry, I’m not going to discuss this with you, thank you.
We also messaged someone who previously advertised jobs at the town centre Bradleys on Facebook, who said:
I’m not having this conversation with you but thanks for your interest though.
The Jennyfields site was open as usual on Tuesday (September 26).
We did not receive a response from the Starbeck site, nor did it answer the phone when we called.
Jennyfields Fisheries - which has a Bradleys logo in its window and advertises as Bradleys Fish and Chips Jennyfields on Facebook – was open when we visited on Tuesday and Friday.
When the Stray Ferret called the Jennyfields chippy to find out what's happening, an employee said staff had been “told to give no comment” and that “none of our sites will speak to you”.
The closures have become a talking point on social media, with many people asking local Facebook groups what has happened to the Harrogate and Starbeck sites.
But the mystery behind the seemingly sudden closures remains unsolved.
