North Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Service's incident log provided little information on the incident, but said firefighters were called just after 12.40pm following reports of smoke coming from a building.
Masham Fire Station said its crew, which attended alongside crews from Harrogate and Ripon, found the building was "20% alight" when firefighters arrived.
It added: "Crews used six breathing apparatus, hosereel jets and thermal imaging cameras to tackle the blaze. An aerial ladder platform was used to check for fire spread in the roof voids".
North Street was closed from Market Place West. A one-way system was put in place around the Tesco Marshall Way car park during the incident.
