Yorkshire Water is beginning the next phase of its £15 million upgrade to wastewater infrastructure in and around Pannal, to support the proposed development of more than 2,000 new houses in the area.
Work is already underway, with a wastewater pumping station at Harlow Carr Gardens, a storage tank at Fulwith Mill Lane, and 5km of new sewer pipework around the area, with work currently taking place on Lady Lane.
The next stage will see construction begin on a second pumping station and second storage tank, to build further pressure relief and capacity into the network.
Construction of the pumping station has begun off Spring Lane and is expected to be completed in February 2027.
Yorkshire Water said the site would be accessed via an entrance that will be built opposite the junction of Spring Lane and Westminster Drive, meaning there will be temporary traffic lights in place while the entrance is constructed.
The second storage tank will be built behind Pannal Green, where preliminary works have started.
Together, the storage tanks will build over 2000m3 of extra capacity into the existing network, holding up to two million litres of excess wastewater and rainwater, in support of new developments.
The work in Harrogate forms part of Yorkshire Water’s £8.3bn improvement programme – its largest ever investment into infrastructure.
The work is taking place to prepare infrastructure because of planning permissions already in place for over 2,000 new homes in the area, due to be delivered over the next 12 years.
