Following on from the success of last year, the Great How Stean Duck Race in Pateley Bridge is returning this year.
The duck race begins at the top of the How Stean Gorge and visitors will be able to follow the progress of the race from the bridge and in the gorge itself.
There are prizes to be won for the winning ducks at this charity event including a two-night mid-week stay in one of its four-bedroom lodges, two half-day activity vouchers and family passes to the gorge and caves – simply enter one duck for £5 or two ducks for £8.
All proceeds will go to Yorkshire Air Ambulance and the Upper Wharfedale Fell Rescue Association.
Normal charges apply for entry into the gorge, first race 10am, second race 10.15am, August 1, How Stean Gorge, Lofthouse, HG3 5SF.
Books and Beverages returns to Harrogate Library this month.
Held on the first Friday of every month, it shines a spotlight on local authors.
This month it features children’s author John Clewarth, focusing on his path to writing, his experiences as an author, and the challenges and joys of writing for children and young adults, with plenty of time for questions afterwards.
Free although there’s a small charge of 50p for a cup a of tea and £1 for coffee, 1.30pm-2.30pm, August 2, Harrogate Library, HG1 1EG.

The annual St Wilfrid’s procession, dating back to 1108, is taking place in Ripon on Saturday.
Watch the bright and bold decorated floats as they journey through the ancient streets, bringing a carnival-like atmosphere to the city.
As well as the procession, there will be a climbing wall, bungee trampoline and face painters among the activities.

Duncan Goodwin, who recently found fame on Channel 4’s The Piano, is putting on a concert this Saturday at Wesley Chapel in Harrogate.
Duncan, who stole the hearts of the nation with his song dedicated to his wife, Theme for Fran, will be playing this along with his repertoire of popular songs, with all the money raised from the concert going to Dementia Forward.

Harrogate MG & Classic Car Club is putting on its 38th show this Sunday.
There will be a display of various car models as well as a specific MG competition. It will also makes a fun day out for all the family with music, entertainment, stalls, a fun dog show and food and drink.
