The latest addition to Harrogate’s retail offering has opened its doors.
HempWell, which already has bricks-and-mortar stores in York and Brighton, officially opened on November 18 after taking over the Oxford Street unit formerly occupied by Baltzersen’s bakery.
The company stocks CBD – also known as cannabidiol – products, including oils, gummies, supplements, skincare and vapes.
The family-run firm launched in 2017 and is based at Science Park at the University of York campus.
HempWell co-owner, Philip James, said opening in Harrogate was a “natural progression” for the company, adding:
We already have many customers who come from Harrogate and visit the York store, so it made perfect sense for us to open there. Customers really do appreciate coming into a real store and getting accurate information from our brilliant consultancy team.

CBD is extracted from hemp plants and, HempWell claims, is widely used to help with joint and muscle pain, anxiety and sleep issues.
Alongside the CBD products, the local shop offers a range of vitamins and herbal supplements, and will have soon have a reflexology treatment area.
The company said it grows its own hemp in Sicily and Bulgaria, before harvesting it and creating the CBD oils and creams at its York laboratories.
HempWell said:
Working alongside the UK’s leading CBD expert Professor Mike Barnes, HempWell strives for reliable and exceptional quality CBD. HempWell takes education seriously. Rather than promoting products, the company provides straightforward information to help clients make their own choices.
