Coppice Valley town councillor resigns
A Harrogate town councillor who represented the Coppice Valley area has resigned.
Harrogate Town Council announced the formal resignation of Councillor Austin Wildmore for the ward yesterday (June 4).
Liberal Democrat Councillor Wildmore has served for just over a year after being elected in May 2025, with 40% of the vote.
The Lib Dems hold 14 of the 19 seats on the town council. The Conservatives have three, Reform UK has one and there is one Independent.
Iona Taylor, clerk at the town council, told the Stray Ferret the councillor's resignation letter had not given a specific reason for resigning.
The council has published a formal notice of vacancy, and now 10 registered electors for the Coppice Valley ward have the right to ask the Returning Officer at North Yorkshire Council to hold a by-election.
That request must be made within a 14 working-day period. If no such request is made then the town council may appoint someone.
If residents of the Coppice Valley ward would like to request this vacancy to be filled they must write to North Yorkshire Council at elections@northyorks.gov.uk or by post to Proper Office, North Yorkshire Council, Civic Centre, St. Luke's Avenue, Harrogate, HG1 2AE.
