Council-owned leisure and wellness facilities across the Harrogate district will rebrand in December.
North Yorkshire Council last year announced it would bring all five of its own leisure operators, including Brimhams Active, back in-house.
As part of the changes, the council recently launched its new Active North Yorkshire brand, which will bring its Harrogate district facilities under the same umbrella.
People can expect new names on signs and staff uniforms across leisure sites, as well as a new customer app and web page.
This means leisure centres in Harrogate, Ripon and Knaresborough – which have all recently undergone multi-million-pound revamps – will no longer be operated by Brimhams Active, which was set up by the now-defunct Harrogate Borough Council. The same applies to Nidderdale Leisure Centre.
The Fairfax, Stockwell and Jennyfield Styan wellbeing hubs will also rebrand to Active North Yorkshire, as well as the Turkish Baths, Starbeck Baths and the Little Explorers Day Nursery in Harrogate.
Services in Selby and Tadcaster were the first to rebrand on September 1.
The council’s executive member for leisure, cllr Simon Myers, today said the authority is confident the transition will work well across the Harrogate district:
Knowing that everything went well for Selby and Tadcaster paves the way for the bigger transfer in Harrogate. We have 10 facilities to move under the Active North Yorkshire brand, but we are confident that our systems will work, and customers will still be able to access everything as usual.
This is a very exciting time for the council and for our leisure services as we continue to support the wellbeing of our communities.
Customers will still be able to access facilities and classes as usual, but additional activities and services will also be introduced.
A member of Active North Yorkshire Selby, Cathleen Middleton, said the changeover was easy:
The changeover was very easy; the app is just about the same and the staff all look very nice in their new uniforms.
Harrogate district facilities will move under the Active North Yorkshire banner on December 1.
Craven and Hambleton sites will change this winter, while Richmondshire Leisure Trust will make the transition next spring.
Ryedale and Scarborough centres won’t change until summer 2027.
The council last month launched a public consultation on its leisure facilities. The survey, which is still running, invites people to have their say on current leisure provisions and how they feel these could be improved.
It ends on November 4.
