One of the UK’s biggest housebuilders is planning to build 75 homes in Killinghall.

Edinburgh-based Miller Homes has not yet applied for planning permission for the site on Picking Croft Lane, on the south-west edge of the village, but has sent leaflets to local addresses inviting householders to give their views ahead of an application.

The Edinburgh-based construction firm is also holding a drop-in event in the village hall this month, where residents can find out more.

The consultation closes on Friday, July 4.

The three hectares of land where the proposed development would be built was included on a map of potential housing sites published by North Yorkshire Council in February.

According to planning firm Spawforths, which will host the consultation event, the development will include a single vehicle access point, landscaping, ecological mitigation areas and public open space.

The houses will be of different sizes and types, using materials “in keeping with the surrounding area”, and will include affordable and accessible housing.

Killinghall has been growing rapidly over the last 15 years, raising fears that it could lose its village character.

The latest proposed development would effectively be an extension of a 78-home scheme on Picking Croft Lane that was first approved in 2015.

In just the last six years, Harron Homes has built the 75-home Kings Croft development in the east of the village, and Linden Homes has built 55 homes off Grainbeck Lane, and another 62 at Cautley Drive, near the cricket pitch.

Spawforths’ drop-in consultation event will be held on Wednesday, June 18, from 2pm to 7.30pm at Killinghall Village Hall.
