Fewer trains to run on Harrogate line due to heatwave
Northern has warned passengers to check before they travel on the Harrogate line tomorrow due to extreme heat.
Temperatures are set to rise above 30 degrees as another heatwave hits the UK this week.
Northern said it would operate a reduced timetable on Thursday (August 13) on some of its routes in Yorkshire due to rising temperatures.
In a statement, the company said:
High temperatures increase the risk of issues on the railway and with the reliability of our trains, which means we have to make adjustments to our usual timetable to keep trains running.
To help keep customers on the move as much as possible, we are temporarily running a reduced timetable so we can ensure the trains we do run provide a more reliable service during the hottest part of the weather.
If you’re planning to travel on Thursday, 13 August, please check your journey before you set off and allow extra time, as some services may need to be altered or changed at short notice.
Currently, services on the Harrogate line appear to be affected between 11am and 5pm, when services between Leeds and York will be reduced to every hour.
Passengers are urged to check timetables before they travel.
Chip shop closes
Meanwhile, the extreme heat is also affecting local businesses.
North Street Fisheries in Ripon posted on its Facebook page that it would be closed tomorrow due to the heatwave.
It said it will be open on Friday (August 14).
