Fire crews tackle blazes in Marton-cum-Grafton and Knaresborough
Fire crews were called to tackle major fires in Knaresborough and Marton-cum-Grafton today (August 10).
Firefighters from Harrogate, Knaresborough, Wetherby, Acomb and Killingbeck were called to a blaze at Marton-cum-Grafton at 12.02pm, according to North Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Service’s incident log.
The aerial ladder platform was also deployed.
Crews tackled a fire measuring 15 metres by 7 metres to a general waste pile, within a warehouse measuring 30 metres by 15 metres.
An incident log added:
Site staff assisted by dispersing household waste using site machinery. Crews used two breathing apparatus, two hose reel jets, thermal imaging camera and three positive pressure ventilations.
Meanwhile, a crew from Harrogate responded to reports of a stubble field on fire at Hay-a-Park in Knaresborough.
An incident log said the fire measured approximately 60 metres by 60 metres.
It added:
The fire had been extinguished prior to fire service arrival, by the farmers. Crews damped down the area. The cause was accidental. Crews used two hose reel jets.
