The devastating fire that ripped through a home in Spofforth earlier this week was started accidentally, it has been revealed.
A spokesperson for North Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Service has told the Stray Ferret that the fire is believed to have been caused by the ignition of lithium-ion batteries.
One person was taken to hospital following the blaze, which damaged five properties in a terrace of six.
The worst affected was the house on the end of the row, whose upper rooms were completely gutted.
As we reported on Wednesday, a fundraising page set up by a man named Harry has been launched to raise funds to support a mother and son named Ben and Tracy, whose home was worst affected but who reportedly did not have home insurance. At the time of publication, the appeal had raised more than £1,800.
